The annual FIS Ski Jumping World Cup pits the very best athletes the sport has to offer against each other, in a quest to become the world's number one.
In 1909 Bruno Bieler wrote his name into the history books when he jumped 22 metres on the first 'large' hill in Oberstdorf, the 'Schanze auf den Halden'. At the time this was a truly outstanding performance, and since then Oberstdorf has caught the jumping bug. In order to maintain its position as Germany's primary ski jumping region, the venue has had to constantly alter its hill, getting bigger and better every time, right up to the current K120 which opened in 2003. The Schattenberg Ski Stadium is fully equipped to handle tens of thousands of spectators and even hosted the Nordic Ski World Championships in 1987.
